Facial Implants
What are Facial Implants?
Facial implants are a cosmetic surgery procedure that add volume and definition to specific areas of the face. These implants are made from biocompatible materials, such as silicone or porous polyethylene, with a long track record of success. Facial implants are designed to fit an individual’s unique anatomy and meet their treatment goals.
What is the Process for Getting Facial Implants?
- Consultation. During your consultation, you’ll discuss your desired outcome with Dr. Spalla. He’ll examine your facial structure and determine which areas would benefit from implant placement. Common areas for facial implants include the cheeks, chin, jawline, nose, and temples.
- Surgical procedure. Dr. Spalla makes small incisions in locations that aren’t very visible and inserts the implants. Most implants are able to be placed through incisions in the mouth, so they will never be seen. He carefully positions them to achieve natural-looking results. Once in place, the incisions are closed using sutures or dissolvable stitches. A bandage may be applied to support healing and reduce swelling.
- Side effects. Patients should expect some bruising and swelling following facial implant surgery but can typically return to normal activities within one to two weeks.

Types of Facial Implants
Chin Implants
These implants are used to improve the projection and shape of the chin, creating a more balanced profile. They can help strengthen a weak chin or correct asymmetry.
Cheek Implants
These implants are used to improve the projection and shape of the cheeks. They are a great solution for patients who are tired of constantly getting cheek fillers or for patients who never had strong cheekbones.
Paranasal Implants
These C-shaped implants, also called paranasal implants, are placed on either side of the nose. By doing so, they can help decrease prominent nasolabial folds, improve upper lip volume, and even raise the corners of the mouth.
Jawline Implants
Designed specifically for improving the contour and definition of the jawline, these implants can help create a more defined jawline, round out your face, and are often used in men to masculinize the face.
Nasal Implants
Nasal augmentation can be achieved through nasal implant surgery, which may involve placing an implant along the top of the nose to create a stronger bridge. They also come in shapes to increase tip projection and definition.

Recovery and Aftercare
Following facial implant surgery, it’s important to take proper care of yourself to ensure a smooth recovery. Here are some tips to help you through the healing process:
Take it easy
Allow yourself time to rest and recover after the surgery. Avoid strenuous activities or heavy lifting for at least two weeks.
Post-operative instructions
Your surgeon will provide specific guidelines on how to care for your incisions, medications to take, and any restrictions on bathing or washing your face.
Pain and Swelling
Expect some discomfort and swelling immediately after surgery. Use prescribed pain medication as directed, apply cool packs to reduce swelling, and keep your head elevated while sleeping.
Protect your skin
Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily and wear wide-brimmed hats when exposed to sunlight.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle
Eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients that support skin health, exercise regularly for improved blood circulation, manage stress levels effectively, and avoid smoking, which can impair healing.
Regular follow-up appointments
Attend all scheduled check-up appointments with your surgeon for evaluation of healing progress and address any concerns or questions you may have.
Frequently Asked Questions
Facial implant prices will vary based on how many you’re having put in and where they’re being placed. It is important to note that these prices typically do not include other associated costs like anesthesia fees or facility charges. Many people that get facial implants view them as a long term investment. While the cost may be more steep upfront compared to some other aesthetic procedures, facial implants provide a permanent improvement in your face without the need for lifelong appointments.
